<link rel="canonical" href="http://yoursite.com"/>In my humble opinion if you 've full control of your server you don't need this canonical definition at all.
You can just workaround it using mod_rewrite o other techniques depending of your server.
But for sure it will be useful for a lot of people that doesn't have control over their server and might avoid some duplicated content.
